Jacqueline’s story

How long were you trying to conceive before you saw Dr. Blotner?

I got married when I was 36, so I knew I already was behind the eight- ball for having children. After a year and a half of trying, nothing was happening, and we knew we needed professional help.

My husband wanted children as much as I did, so we were both invested in trying to find a solution.

How did you hear about Dr. Blotner’s practice?

We reached out to friends, and I also researched fertility doctors in the area.   After I ‘put it out there in the universe,’  I learned that a good friend had been a patient of Dr. Blotner and her twin daughters are #BlotnerBabies. Also, my husband’s co-worker had been a patient.

Having a couple of personal recommendations was reassuring, so we made an appointment.

What type of treatment did you have at Westchester Fertility?

Dr. Blotner suggested several options initially, including intrauterine inseminations (IUI). We underwent three unsuccessful IUIs and were very discouraged. Dr. Blotner wanted us to start in vitro fertilization (IVF).

However, after the failed IUIs, I felt I could no longer take the uncertainty and wanted a break before starting IVF.  Dr. Blotner recommended we try a different medication cocktail so I could produce more good-quality eggs.  Devastatingly, that IVF cycle did not work either,  But Dr. Blotner convinced me to give it one more try. During our last attempt, he retrieved more eggs and one great embryo, which became our son, Xander.

What advice would you give other people dealing with infertility?

All the failed cycles crushed me. I was approaching 40, and I did not think I would ever be successful. But Dr. Blotner’s confidence and encouragement buoyed me and raised my spirits.

Infertility treatment has extreme highs and extreme lows. After the many shots, pills, suppositories, it was all worth it. Xander is amazing.

Though it was taboo years ago, I like to talk about my struggles.  I am a proud mom through IVF, and I am glad we persevered through our journey.

Would you recommend others to Dr. Blotner and Westchester Fertility?

Dr. Blotner and his staff were awesome. They pat you on the back when you need it.  Though I was nervous and confused, Dr. Blotner put my mind at ease from the minute he said hello. I felt comfortable when I was in his presence, and it was easy to interact with his employees.

When you are looking for a clinic, try to find a doctor and clinic that clicks with your personality. Infertility is an emotional roller coaster, so the staff needs to be compassionate and empathetic.

I am a huge advocate for Dr. Blotner and his office. Any time I hear someone struggle with having a baby, I tell them to see him.  I will always sing his praises.
